Crystal Ski Holidays in Mayrhofen
Crystal are the largest UK tour operator, bringing hundreds of people into Mayrhofen every week. Their office is located conveniently next to the Penkenbahn cable car station, with a very handy ski depot on offer. They benefit from an experience team of resort representatives with many returning year on year and so able to give indepth advice and guidance regarding everything that is going on in Mayrhofen.
This is what they have to say about Mayrhofen.
“Sitting at the foot of the Penken and Ahorn mountains with 57 lifts, 136km of skiing and Austria’s steepest run, Harakiri, Mayrhofen is one of the most diverse Alpine resorts. All slopes are reached by gondola, so beginners will need a full lift pass from day one, although the ski schools are great and the range of easier runs make for fast progression. Mayrhofen has a wide variety of more challenging runs and, in the right conditions, some impressive off-piste. If you manage to defeat the 38 degree gradient of Harakiri, you get to wear the “I survived Harakiri” t-shirt, and get your 5 minutes’ of fame at a free photo shoot every Friday. The Vans Penken Park is also one of the leading freestyle parks in Europe. But don’t worry, even if you’re a beginner you can practice your skills in the Kids Park section.
At the Ahornbahn mountain station enjoy some regional food at Café-Bistro, or head over to the White Lounge, where the Ice Bar and Igloo Hotel sit atop of Ahorn with breathtaking views of the resort. It’s also worth exploring the wider Ziller Valley, as your pass covers 487km in total, including the guaranteed snow of the Hintertux glacier. Après often starts in Pilzbar at the Penken top station and continues until late in town. Some of the most popular choices include Brück’n Stadl, Movie Bar and Ice. Every April, the Snowbombing festival takes over Mayrhofen – bringing world-famous DJs, bands and plenty of revellers.
Mayrhofen is a large, traditional town, so some things will be closer than others depending on your accommodation. But whether you prefer skiing or boarding, partying or lazing about in the spa, Europop or rock, up-market or budget – you’ll find something to meet your needs.
The 3S Penkenbahn cable car – thirty-three 24-seat gondolas, each complete with child-friendly access and WiFi. The large capacity has made queues a thing of the past. We suggest though, that if you are staying on the outskirts, you might want to use the free ski buses to nearby Finkenberg or Hippach to beat any crowds.”
